The management and staff at
GOLD Restaurant comprise of people from all over Africa - South Africa, Camaroon, Mali, Zambia, Zimbabwe - to name but a few. We believe that we are very fortunate - we work in a wonderful environment, have developed strong family ties with each other and regard GOLD as our home away from home. We have learnt from each other, and taught each other.
Our collective cultures flow as one each night - we bring Africa to GOLD not only through our service, singing and dancing, but also through our smiles, our laughter and our appreciation that we have a home, we have a job.
In all of this, we do not forget others who are perhaps not as fortunate as we are.
In 2008 we partnered with the oldest Children's home in South Africa. It has been supported and managed by the Lutheran Church (our principal Landlord) for over 200 years. The Home houses over 40 children of all ages, from all walks of life. There is no race or gender discrimination. The Home survives on donations from the community and the amazing work done by the Lutheran Church.
Every month we host the children from the Home after church for tea and cakes, and each year we celebrate Christmas with a party for them at GOLD.
We serve a set menu at GOLD, and our dishes are cooked from scratch each day. We always prepare plenty of food so that we do not run out, so we frequently have food left over at the end of the evening. All of this is taken to the Home daily.
Because we only change our menu 4 times a year, we believe that the children look forward to the new menu's more than we do!
